Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at borehole LK.8 drilled in Can Tho City (x = 11°11’; y = 105°47’).

Synonym: Hệ tầng Cần Thơ: Lê Đức An et al. 1981; Nguyền Ngợc Hoa et al. 1996; Trịnh Dánh (in Vũ Khúc 2000).


Lithology and Thickness

Reference section: (1). (361-317 m): yellowish-grey, brown-grey quartz sandstone and gritstone, at 340-331 m sandstone becomes fine-grained, containing the Globigerinidae foraminifer, 44 m thick. (2). (317-275 m): yellow to browmish, fine-grained silty sandstone containing some pebble and grit mainly of quartz and some chcrt, 42 m thick. The total thickness of the formation in this section is 86 m.


Lithology Pattern: 
Fine-grained sandstone


Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Unconformably rests upon Paleozoic beds (Hon Chong Fm) in reference section. But usually it unconformably rests upon the Phung Hiep Fm (late Miocene)

Upper contact

Unconformably underlies the Nam Can Fm.
